Lynashia Godfrey: Forging a Path Through the Love of Music

I came across you and your husband on Instagram some time ago and I was amazed by the skill the two of you have! Such a talented couple and I'm happy to have the opportunity to interview you! First question: How did you discover your talents/skills?

I’ve always had music around me. My immediate family are all musicians and I began to fall in love with everything music! I’ve played every wind instrument except flute/saxophone and received a scholarship for music performance at Chowan University.

Wow look at you! The love of music certainly runs deep and that explains so much in your playing. I want to say that many of the times I've seen you playing, on a post or story of sorts, you always looked so into the zone. Can you share a significant moment that inspired your decision to pursue a creative career?

I had an opportunity to music direct my college choir and we were able to build with North Carolina Central and North Carolina A&T’s gospel choirs. It was an adrenaline rush that led to me moving back to Columbus, OH where I was able to extend my network and it’s been forward ever since!

I can only imagine what that opportunity was like! In an upcoming series, I want to look deeper into your experiences and have you go further into detail about your experiences. you know I have to ask this, what artists or creators have had the most influence on your work?

Adam Blackstone, Terrace Martin, Rickey Minor, Roy Cotton, Vaughn Phoenix, Twinkie Clark

That's a pretty solid group of people you listed here! I know at least 3 of the names and have personally drawn some inspiration from, and the others I may have heard in passing. One of the harder questions, how would you describe your creative style in three words?

Original, Aggressive, Tasteful

Lol I believe in all of the interviews I've done so far yours is the first to include aggressive in the style. In our next interview I'll ask you more about that too! Can you walk me through your typical creative process from idea to completion?

The melody comes first, I’ll lay the drums after so I can match what I hear the bass line with the kick and hits from the drums, then I add colors and FX to paint the picture, then finally I cleanup ends and mix!

How do you overcome creative blocks or challenges?

Silence is the best way to overcome creative blocks for me. Whether it’s taking a drive with nothing playing, taking a walk through nature, or even visiting family helps reset my ears and I’m able to finish.

Do you have any routines that enhance your creativity?

Pray and study with God, drink a liter of water and GO TIME!

Which project are you most proud of, and why?

The latest tour I finished, Open Treehouse Summer Tour with Joey Aich has been one of my proudest projects to do. Being able to travel to different cities to perform such a masterful album with the fans jamming to my arrangements was exhilarating to witness. The project from the tour is dropping soon and I can’t wait!!!

And of course, where can our readers follow you to keep up with your greatness?
